Interlibrary Loan Assistant

DESCRIPTION: The Interlibrary Loan Assistant is responsible for locating, preparing and shipping library materials to requesting libraries and to receive and stage materials that have been requested by Albright College students and staff. Students may work between 3 and 7 hours during several mornings during the week, depending upon the needs of the library. Specific hours are decided by mutual agreement between the supervisor and the student when hired. This position reports to the Interlibrary Loan supervisor.

Duties:

  • Open and separate packages received by the Inter Library Loan department into Albright College owned and those owned by other universities
  • Affix ILL lables to materials requested by Albright College students, staff, and faculty
  • Accurately record reception or transmission of books, articles and other materials in the ILLiad software
  • Retrieve books requested by other colleges 
  • Make accurate photocopies of requested journal articles from newspapers, journals or microforms
  • Scan materials for shipment to other libraries or off-campus faculty and students. Electronically transmit or mail articles as requested
  • Mark materials shipped in database and print copy to be sent with book or mailed article
  • Package materials for shipping
  • Scan materials for shipment to other libraries or off-campus faculty and students

QUALIFICATIONS:  The ideal Interlibrary Loan candidate is required to possess all of the following:

  • Orientation to detail
  • Ability to adhere to work schedule.
  • Ability to work independently once trained
  • Ability to lift library materials weighing at least 20 lbs.
  • Professional and courteous manner with staff, other student assistants and patrons
  • Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System (Training available)


WAGES: The library currently pays minimum wage $7.25/hour for this position after a students passes their probationary/trainee period. Students advance by demonstrating their mastery of the duties they perform, as enumerated on the skill list for their position and their attitude as evaluated by their supervisors. Formal evaluations occur annually.
