Welcome to the Internship Possibilities at the Albright College Library


The Gingrich Library offers several paid internships each year to Albright students.  These internships can be completed during the Fall, Spring or Summer semesters and are competitive.   Depending on the project, they may fulfill internships for selected majors.

Albright students are encouraged to check out the current available internships below. The three internships currently available are:

  • Library intern (interest in graduate school in library science - open to all majors)
  • Technology intern (interest in automating library activities)
  • Research & Assessment Intern (interest in researching library needs or assessing library services)

Library Intern

Description: The Library is looking for a junior or senior Albright College student who is interested in pursuing a graduate degree in Library Science, Library/Information Science or Archives.  All majors accepted.

Job description: The position is a one semester internship (150 hours) at the Albright College Library.  The internship is designed to introduce a student to the behind-the-scenes working of an academic library and provide the student with experiential learning opportunities that complement the liberal arts academic preparation with direct practical experience in a library setting. The student will participate in staff team meetings and brainstorming sessions and be given the option to choose several projects to complete in various sections of the library, e.g., library administration, archives, collection management, circulation, reference, website management, instructional support and outreach.  Sample projects could include:

  • Conduct research in student library and library website usage

  • Assist staff in preparation of library’s departmental review

  • Assist staff in preparation of grant requests

  • Participate in the digitization and publication of Albright College archival materials

  • Create library website information

  • Assist in shaping the library collection

  • Design and manage a library outreach project

The position carries a $500 stipend and is a non-credit internship. . Any student who desires a credit internship must identify a faculty member who will work with the library staff to convert the project to a credit project.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate:

  • Will be a junior or senior with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, interested in attending graduate school in library science, library/information science or archival studies.

  • Will have strong communication and interpersonal skills; the ability to work well with a diverse group of people; and capacity to work independently.

  • Will fulfill the academic learning objectives required by the Library and follow all the rules, regulations and normal requirements of the Library.

Technology Intern

Description: The Library is looking for a junior or senior Albright College student who is interested in working with the Library staff in automating library programs and outreach.  Most likely majors include: Digital Media, Computer Science, Information Systems or Education.

Job description: The position is a one semester internship (150 hours) at the Albright College Library.  The internship is designed to provide the student with experiential learning opportunities that complement the liberal arts academic instruction and to have the intern produce online products that can be used to introduce Albright first year students to academic library research and services.  Students must be able to design a project and work with subject matter experts (SMEs) to convert their ideas to an online format.  Sample projects could include:

  • Conversion of the library murder mystery to an online game with multiple endings
  • Creation of library instructional programs as ADA-compatible videos where student learning can be assessed online

The position carries a $500 stipend and is a non-credit internship.  Any student who desires a credit internship must identify a faculty member who will work with the library staff to convert the project to a credit project.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate:

  • Will be a junior or senior with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Will have the necessary skills to complete the project, e.g., basic computer programming, HTML5, or Adobe Creative Suite experience.
  • Will have strong communication and interpersonal skills; the ability to work well with a diverse group of people; and the capacity to work independently, when needed.
  • Will fulfill the academic learning objectives required by the Library and follow all the rules, regulations and normal requirements of the Library.

Research & Assessment Intern

Description: The Library is looking for a junior or senior Albright College student who is interested in working with the Library staff in researching library use, patron service expectations and knowledge.  Most likely majors include: Sociology, Business, Marketing, Education or Psychology.

Job description: The position is a one semester internship (150 hours) at the Albright College Library.  The internship is designed to introduce a student to basic client research needs of a non-profit institution and provide the student with experiential learning opportunities that complement the liberal arts academic instruction. The student will participate in staff team meetings and brainstorming sessions and be given the option to choose from various projects to complete.   Sample projects could include:

  • Research student library and library website usage and expectations
  • Assess incoming (first year student) general level of information literacy
  • Assist library staff in assessing information literacy objectives in the general education program
  • Assist library staff in determining faculty library support needs and creating programs to support them
  • Research ADP student support needs

The position carries a $500 stipend and is a non-credit internship. Any student who desires a credit internship must identify a faculty member who will work with the library staff to convert the project to a credit project.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate:

  • Will be a junior or senior with a GPA of 3.0 or higher who has completed coursework in research or assessment
  • Will be able to build and deliver a research project; analyze and report the results .
  • Will have strong communication and interpersonal skills; the ability to work well with a diverse group of people; and the capacity to work independently, when needed.
  • Will fulfill the academic learning objectives required by the Library and follow all the rules, regulations and normal requirements of the Library.
