Free Programs

Unless otherwise indicated, all programs have versions for Windows, Macintosh, and Linux.  Documentation and video tutorials are readily available on the Internet.

  • Audacity.  Free digital audio editor and recording application.  Saving as MP3 requires  the use of the LAME encoder.
  • GIMP (Graphic Image Manipulation Program).  A powerful image manipulation program (including filters).
  • Inkscape.  An Open Source vector graphics editor, with capabilities similar to Illustrator, CorelDraw, or Xara X, using the W3C standard Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) file format.
  • LibreOfffice.   A free personal productivity suite for Windows, Macintosh, and Linux.  Applications for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and more.
  • MyPaint.  A fast and easy open-source graphics application for digital painters.  (Windows and Linux only.)
  • VLC Player.  Simple, fast, and powerful media player.  It has the highest degree of compatibility with multiple formats.
