Albright Student Borrowers' Policy

What must I do to use the library print and electronic resources?

In order to use the library, students must have a current college ID, which is issued from the Office of Public Safety. The back side of the ID must have a  library barcode at the top of the card. Anyone with a hard to read barcode should contact Public Safety at 610-921-7670.

How long can I use the resources at the Albright Library?

  • Full time undergraduate students are registered in the system until their expected graduation date.
  • Full time graduate students are registered for the current academic year.
  • Full time accelerated degree students are registered until the expected cohort graduation date.
  • .Part time undergraduate, accelerated degree start and graduate students are registered until the end of the current semester or class completion date and can be reregistered when enrolled in another class.

Students who earn their degree are then eligible for Albright alumni privileges.

Library hours

Information is available at 610-921-7517 during open hours and at 610-921-7219 when the library is closed or online.

What materials circulate? What are the loan periods? To what other services does my circulation ID entitle me?

Student borrowers may borrow up to fifty circulating books.  Books from the general collection are loaned for 42 days and popular reading books and classroom media items are loaned for 14 days. Materials currently on reserve have a 3 hour to 3 day loan period and must be used in the library. Items can be renewed in person or online.

A complete list of items, borrowing periods, renewal options and charges is available online.

Non-circulating materials include reference books, reserve items, periodicals, microforms, special collections and faculty classroom media.

Students may use all electronic resources listed on the Library Databases page on college campus. With their college user name and password, they can also access the electronic resources remotely, use interlibrary loan, and reserve group study space.

What happens if I am late returning materials?

The overdue fine for circulating books is $.10 per day for books and more for reserve materials, media items or popular DVDs (for a complete list of charges, see our chart). Overdue and fine notices are issued via email as a courtesy to our borrowers. It is the borrower's responsibility to check the due date stamped on each item or by accessing their electronic accounts. All unpaid fines and charges will be sent to Student Accounts in  the Business Office.

What is a recall?

A recall is a request made by an Albright faculty/staff  member to retrieve material charged to another borrower.

Materials charged to non faculty/staff  borrowers that are recalled are due upon receipt of the notice. There is a grace period of two business days before fines accrue.  Notices specifying the new due date will be issued when items are recalled. Penalties (fines) of $5 per day will accrue for litems returned after the grace period.

Students do not have recall privileges, however,  they may make an ILL request for the needed item or the item may be  placed  on hold for the next available copy.

Recalled items are due upon receipt of the recall notice. there is a grace period of two business days before fines accrue.  Notices specifying the new due date will be issued when items are recalled. Penalties (fines) of $5 per day will accrue for late returns.

What is a hold?

If a student would like to be notified when a checked out book is returned, he/she can place a "hold" on the item to ensure that when the item is returned they are notified.

What other costs may be incurred?

Borrowers are charged replacement costs and processing fees for lost or damaged items. These fees will be assessed per item. There is a minimum fee of $65 per lost book.
