Special Collections is divided into two main collections: Special Collections "Special Collections" is a term typically referring to books, but can include other materials, and have value to the college. Value may be placed on materials due to one of the following: (1) rarity, (2) poor condition, (3) focus on a certain subject, (4) printed or bound in a particular format, and/or (5) focus on a certain time period or geographic area. The principal collections are: Evangelical United Brethren Church: Mostly a collection of conference proceedings, journals, and yearbooks of the Evangelical Association, the Evangelical United Brethren Church, and the United Methodist Church from the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference, Central Pennsylvania Conference and some materials from the Western Pennsylvania Conference. Limited Collections: Jane Dick, a deceased employee of the college, had collected numerous limited editions of books. Her collection, housed in Special Collections are mostly literary works, but there also volumes pertaining to art and architecture, and history. Pennsylvania Dutch: The materials in this collection include publications about the Pennsylvania Germans, and examples of Pennsylvania German language, art, literature and music. Rare Books: The rare book collection consists mainly of books published prior to 1830. Books include those from the libraries of the Union Seminary, Central Pennsylvania College, and Schuylkill Seminary, and from the libraries of the Neocosmian Literary Society and the Excelsior Literary Society; many are Bibles and other Christian texts. Part of the collection consists of miniature books, autographed editions, first editions, limited editions, private press publications and books with unique bindings. Reading/Berks County Collection: Largely a collection of books concerning county, town, school, political and church history. Also included are books by local authors. Archives The Albright College Archives tell the story of the college from the 1850s to today. The archives contain material related to the history and people of Albright College and document the evolution of the college. The materials held include yearbooks, college catalogs, college newspapers, correspondence, minutes of meetings, student handbooks, scrapbooks, commencement programs, student honors papers, annual reports, alumni files, and photographs.
