The college ID card is also your library card. You will need your library card for all circulation transactions, including reserves. You are welcome to borrow books from the circulating collection for a loan period of 112 days; periodicals and reference books for use during class time if necessary for a presentation; and media and best selling books for 2 weeks. Most items can be renewed in person or online (by logging into the cataLION online catalog) for another borrowing period. Items may be recalled from faculty if they are needed desperately by another faculty member, depending upon the patron's need.
Upon request, your family members can be issued ID cards that will entitle them to borrow 6 items at a time from the collection. There may be some restrictions on their use of the card. See library circulation policies and guidelines for more details.
The Albright Library's online catalog does have materials listed in it from other campus departmental libraries. These items are available for your use but must be obtained from the department. They decide the borrowing terms for their materials.
By presenting your Albright ID card, Albright faculty and students can arrange to have free access to the State Library and over 20 academic collections of the Associated College Libraries of Central Pennsylvania (ACLCP). The members of this consortium are: Alvernia, Bucknell, Dickinson, Dickinson School of Law, Elizabethtown, Franklin and Marshall, Gettysburg, Harrisburg Area Community College, Juniata, Kutztown, Lebanon Valley, Lycoming, McDaniel, Messiah, Millersville, Mount Aloysius College, Penn College of Technology, PSU/Harrisburg campus, Shippensburg, Susquehanna, U.S. Army War College, and York.
A number of local academic and special library collections of the Berks County Library Association (BCLA) are also available for your use. Many special libraries require that you make arrangements before using them. The members of this consortium include PSU/Berks & Lehigh, Reading Area Community College (RACC), Reading Public Library (RPL), Berks County Law Library, and several of the local public and school libraries in the county. RACC, Reading Public and local public libraries maintain a union catalog at http://ipac.reading.lib.pa.us/#focus.
Our goal is to help you locate and borrow any materials you need that we do not own at Albright. At present, there are no charges for ILL and we usually can obtain the materials you want in 1 week or less. If speed is of the essence, contact a Reference Librarian (610-921-7211) for more assistance. Faculty are not regularly limited by the number of loans they can submit. For large numbers of loan requests we ask you to submit them during the times that are low use for students, e.g., summer, Interim, beginning of semester, etc.
At Albright we use the ILLiad system to request and monitor ILL requests. Most databases have an automatic link but you can request a loan by typing it into your account at ILLiad at Albright. Contact Pat Brosenne at (610) 921-7212 for more assistance.
Classroom films can be rented through your department and Penn State’s Media Library online at http://www.medianet.libraries.psu.edu/up/.
