The Campus Center was completed in 1967 and took the place of the Krause Hall student center. It was needed due to a rapidly growing student body. Ground was broken on March 3, 1966. "The memorable Spatz Cottage, dating back to the early history of the Reading institution, which then had been transformed into faculty offices, had to be demolished to make room for the Campus Center" (Discovery and Promise, 234). Ground was broken in the spring of 1966 for the new Campus Center, and the building was completed in 1967. It replaced a temporary building, Krause Hall, and after it was razed the Dining Hall was remodeled, and the theater was constructed. Spatz Cottage was also torn down to make room for the Campus Center.
