Daniel Tannenbaum, 85, Lower Alsace Township, passed away Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, at 2:07 p.m. in his residence. He was the husband of Shoshana E. (Harrison) Tannenbaum, who passed away on March 3, 2010.
Mr. Tannenbaum served as a Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He graduated from Syracuse University and received a Master’s degree in social work from Ohio State University. He worked at the Jewish Community Center in Columbus, Ohio. He later worked as a program director at Jewish Community Centers in Allentown, Pa., and Poughkeepsie, N.Y., prior to becoming the Executive Director of the Jewish Community Center in New Bedford, Mass.
He served as the Executive Director of the Jewish Community Center in Rockford, Ill., from 1974 until 1981 before coming to Reading, where he served as the Executive Director of the Jewish Federation of Reading from 1982 until retiring in 1994. He served as the Coordinator of the Holocaust Resource Center at Albright College from 1994 until his passing.
Mr. Tannenbaum was a past president of the Reading Rotary Club, a board member and former chairman of the Board of B’nai B’rith Apartments, a member of the Pennsylvania Holocaust Education Council and a board member of the Jewish Federation. He was also a member of Kesher Zion Synagogue.
Services will be held Sunday, Dec. 19, at 1 p.m. in Kesher Zion Synagogue. Rabbi Minna J. Bromberg and Rabbi Brian I. Michelson will officiate. Interment will be made in Kesher Zion Cemetery.
