Byron Vazakas, of Greek descent, was born on September 24, 1905 in New York City to Alfred and Margaret (Keffer) Vazakas. His death occured on September 30, 1987 in Reading, PA.

 

He lived much of his life in Reading, PA, and was a "walking poet," drawing inspiriation from what he observed. Much of his writing was done at the Reading Public Library. His career extended from the modernist era into the post-modernist period. In 1947 he was a nominee for the Pulitzer Prize.

 

Many of his poems were published in periodicals, and he published four books of poetry.
