Types of periodicals
Cornell University library distinguishes four categories of periodicals.
- Scholarly (Watch Video) Articles are reviewed by experts and must represent original research.
- Substantive News/General Interest (Watch Video) Intended to provide general information to a broad audience.
- Popular Published to entertain, sell something, or promote a viewpoint
- Sensational Aim to get attention and play on popular superstitions.
