The site of the Life Sports Center, an addition to the physical education facilities, was given by the descendants of George D. Horst, who had given many gifts to the college. Ground was broken on July 9, 1981 and the Sports Center was dedicated on October 16, 1982. In 1990 a large natatorium was added. In 2008 it was renamed the Scholl Life Sports Center in honor of John D. Scholl, Class of 1969. He was a star athlete in basketball, track and baseball.
