Connecting the Past with the Present

Individuals conducting research in the Special Collections and College Archives can expect the full assistance of the staff in locating materials related to their topic of research. Photocopying services and the digital reproduction of photographs and text for individual use are also available. The departmental staff will not conduct extensive research for individuals and will not assist in the interpretation of data. Special Collections and the Albright College Archives are primarily for the use by the Albright College Community, but are open for use by the public. Individual wishing to visit the department are asked to make an appointment due to limited staff. The shelves are closed to researchers, and the Special Collections Librarian will pull the requested materials.  Assistance from the Special Collections Librarian is available in the identification and use of materials for individual research or for study in classes.

Instruction:  The Special Collections and College Archives welcomes the use of its collections by classes working on specific subjects. Faculty planning on requiring the use of primary sources by their students are asked to contact the department prior to the beginning of the semester, or at least three weeks before giving the assignment to the students. It is best to plan on spending one class period on a general presentation by the Special Collections Librarian on the use of archival materials and on pointers related to finding materials related to the subject in question.
