Things to Think About

Use critical thinking skills and evaluate the websites you find.

  • Who is responsible for the site? What are their credentials?
  • What is the purpose of the site?
  • Who is the audience for the site?
  • Is the information current and timely?
  • Are the sources of information reliable?
  • Are there links to other relevant resources?
  • Are they trying to sell you something?

Statistical Data

  • CDC National Center for Health Statistics
    Collects, analyzes, and disseminates timely, relevant, and accurate health data and statistics to inform the public and guide program and policy decisions. 
  • HealthData.gov
    Provides high value health data for entrepreneurs, researchers, and policy makers in the hopes of better health outcomes for all.
  • Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR)
    An international consortium of more than 750 academic institutions and research organizations, with a data archive of more than 250,000 files of research in the social and behavioral sciences.
  • Policy Atlas
    A comprehensive database of policy and public health data for researchers, policymakers, and community advocates.
  • Science.gov
    Provides ready access to massive stores of federally funded scientific research results. Research results include scientific and technical reports, peer-reviewed scholarly publications, digital data, software, conference presentations and proceedings, and other scientific and technical information that federal agencies publish resulting from their research investments.
