Information Literacy

A resource guide for faculty who wish to incorporate information literacy skills into their classes. Modules can be sequenced or used individually.

Evaluating Sources is a stand-alone module useful for classes at any level. It is 20-30 minutes long depending on whether the optional Activities are used.

Learning Objectives

  • Students will be able to distinguish between credible and non-credible sources using different criteria such as the CRAAP Test, SIFT method, lateral reading

Librarian in Class

  • Discusses various methods to assess the credibility of sources
  • Demonstrates how to apply a method to information found online

Assessment

  • Read a short article / webpage and explain 3 of the 5 ways that make it credible or not credible

 

Activities (optional)

  • Students evaluate 2 websites / sources and determine which one is credible
